SSW/EGYPT COACH
Egypt coach Shawky Gharib has placed blame on Chelsea's
treatment of winger Mohamed Salah for Egypt's African Cup of Nations
qualifying loss to Senegal, according to Ahram Online.
Salah has been somewhat frozen out at Stamford Bridge since he arrived
for £11 million from Swiss club Basel in January, failing to make his
mark on the team even after an impressive start.
With Andre Schurrle, Willian and Eden Hazard preferred in the wide
positions recently, Salah has found his opportunities to play in the
first team limited. Gharib blames the poor fitness of Salah - deriving
from his lack of playing time - for failing to see the required threat
from the player in an attacking sense.
Gharib said: We had many mistakes in passing the ball and we failed to
put the required pressure on our opponents but the defenders are not the
only ones to be blamed.
The poor fitness of the players, especially Chelsea’s Mohamed Salah, is
also a reason for the loss. The Egyptian league hasn't started yet and
also Salah didn’t play regularly with Chelsea. If Salah is off-form,
Egypt's performance is always affected.
With Salah set to return to London this week, it's likely that he will
be excluded from the squad again next weekend as Chelsea play Swansea in
an early top of the table clash.
